Japanese cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church; longtime archbishop of Tokyo.  The first Japanese cardinal in the history of the church. Secretary of the Apostolic Delegation in Japan.  He, along with another cardinal, were principal speakers at the conclusion of Vatican Council II.
